MONDAY’S MAGICAL MOMENT: BEARA PENINSULA

BEARA PENINSULA

Down in the southwest corner of Ireland, you’ll find craggy shores, numerous bays and inlets, mountains and three famous peninsulas…….the Dingle, the Iveragh (which includes the Ring of Kerry) and the Beara.  The Beara, or Bere, is the least known, least visited and, I think, the most beautiful.  This photo was taken near Garnish Point in County Cork.

MONDAY’S MAGICAL MOMENT: LAKES OF KILLARNEY

LAKES OF KILLARNEY

County Kerry offers spectacular scenery and the Lakes of Killarney are among  the most lovely sights.    The 3 lakes, Lough Leane, (Lower) Muckross (Middle) and the Upper Lake  are surrounded by the Macgillicuddy Reeks, the highest mountains in Ireland. All are part of the Killarney National Park.  The ever-shifting clouds provide moving bands of light and shadow on the  mountains, adding to the magical quality of the area.

About an hour outside of Belfast, I came upon this gorgeous waterfall in the hamlet of Downhill, in the Glens of AntrimCounty Antrim has so many wonderful locations, including the Mussenden Temple, the Giant’s Causeway,  the Old Bushmills  Distillery, Dunluce Castle, the Portstewart Golf Club, soaring sea cliffs, golden strands, mountains and, yes, waterfalls!

MONDAY’S MAGICAL MOMENT: GALWAY BAY

GALWAY BAY

So many of Ireland’s well-known towns and cities are located along the coast of the island.  Galway, on the Atlantic Ocean, has even had a very lovely song written about Galway Bay, pictured above.  It is a very lively place with great music, culture and craic (fun)!
