MONDAY’S MAGICAL MOMENT: TOWER BRIDGE, LONDON

LONDON BRIDGE

This is Tower Bridge, as seen from the Tower of London, which is actually a vast complex of towers, palaces, residences, gardens  and barracks.  I was surprised to see that is was painted blue!

MONDAY’S MAGICAL MOMENT: CONNEMARA LAKE

CONNEMARA BOAT

Ireland is experiencing the longest heatwave since 1966 and a drought as well (IRELAND…very warm and dry??????….unheard of!),  so an afternoon in the middle of Kylemore Lake in Connemara, County Galway sounds very attractive.  With the looming mountains providing shade, the imposing presence of Kylemore Abbey providing a gorgeous backdrop and the prospect of a stroll around the lake and walled gardens….it all makes for a lovely fantasy.

MONDAY’S MAGICAL MOMENT: PILLARS OF HERCULES

ROCK OF GIBRALTARJEBEL MUSA

Guarding the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea are the Pillars of Hercules.  To the north (left photo)  is the well-known Rock of Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory found on the southernmost tip of Spain.  To the south (right photo) is the imposing Jebel Musa in Morocco.  The legend is that Hercules, while fulfilling one of his 12 Labours, smashed through the rock that was the god Atlas and created the opening to the Atlantic Ocean, leaving the limestone promontories to overlook the Strait of Gibraltar.

MONDAY’S MAGICAL MOMENT: RONDA, SPAIN

RONDA, SPAIN

The Costa del Sol (Marbella, Puerto Banus, San Pedro etc) in Spain, is where the beautiful people congregate…..some call it the Costa del Crime, others the Costa del Sin.  But an hour and half up a winding switchback road will bring you to the lovely town of Ronda.  Hidden up in the mountains it is a shopper’s delight, with leather goods galore on offer.  The Puente Nuevo (New Bridge) traverses an amazing ravine and the town perches precariously on the cliff tops.

MONDAY’S MAGICAL MOMENT: NAPA VALLEY, CA

NAPA VALLEY VINEYARD

I have long enjoyed wine tasting in all of the various California areas but I always come back to my first and favorite, the Napa Valley.  After nearly yearly trips for about 20 years, I finally went solo.  I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but it was a fabulous experience!  People were even more gregarious and welcoming when they realized I was on my own.  This is a photo of the vineyards at Chimney Rock Winery in the Stag’s Leap area of Napa Valley.
