Down in the Kingdom of Kerry there is a new king! Since at least 1603, the annual Puck Fair has seen a new monarch selected and feted for a three day period(10th-12th) in August. The Puck Posse (led by an Official Goatcatcher) heads into the wilds of the Macgillicuddy’s Reeks, Ireland’s highest mountain range, to search for the perfect Puck (in Irish goat = phuic, poc, puck). Once found, he is brought into the lovely town of Killorglin on the banks of the River Laune, crowned with a jeweled crown, kissed by the young Queen of Puck Fair and hoisted onto a 15 foot high platform, from there to observe the ensuing festivities.
